Network Infrastructure Design

Degree Bachelor
Duration: 4 Years (if normal program is followed, I did the fast track)
Started: February 2005
Graduated: February 2008

Designing networks, optimal choices and configurations of an infrastructure and reaching an optimal cooperation between business processes and infrastructure are all important elements of this course. The network Infrastructure Designer analyses the interaction between business processes and their relation with the network environment, so as to be able to arrive at an optimal configuration of the network infrastructure. Another part of his task may be, for example, proposing improvements and innovation of an existing network structure. In this area company certificates play important roles.

The NID course incorporates the CISCO certificates CCNA, CCNP, CCDA and CCDP and seven Microsoft MCSE certificates (unofficial certificates). In all three courses teams of students carry out a number of big projects straight from practice. Here the results, the systematic and thematic approach and the ability to function in teams are all important. The courses are completed with a ‘test of competence’: a final (research) project of one semester carried out in a company at home or abroad.

During the courses a lot of attention is paid not only to subjects related directly to information science, but also to communicative skills (teamwork, interviewing, oral and written presentations).

In main phase of these courses some optional subjects are available which enable the students to deepen or widen their knowledge on the basis of personal interests. These optional subjects focus on technical and managerial applications of information science.

The institute has opted for wide, very practical computer science courses. The co-operation between the two-year Short Programme in Computer Science and the four-year courses in Higher Computer Science and NID offers attractive possibilities here.

The Higher Computer Science courses focus on Software Engineering in general and on object-oriented approaches in particular. This is also apparent from our participation in national projects in the field and the practical courses for industry on offer.

Duration

These courses are full-time four-year course. Graduates are granted the title of Bachelor of ICT.

Professional profile

The Higher Computer Science courses and NID train students for positions in the analysis and design phases of information systems: software engineers, system designers, information analysts, network designers and controllers, etc.
