jarno’s multi-linux-boot DVD
I’ve been thinking about integrating Linux LiveCD distributions to the multi-windows-boot DVD since i started that project. The size of this project got too big so i had to split them up into two different projects.
The multi-linux-boot dvd contains loads of “out-of-the-box” distributions which can be runned from DVD. No installation is needed.
This DVD is made for personal use only and not for sale. All software used on this dvd is classified as freeware or uses the GPL licensing system.
The multi-linux-boot menu (see picture below) contains the following options:
- BackTrack 1.0 (26-05-06);
- CDRouter 2.0.10;
- CentOS 4.3;
- Damn Small Linux 3.0.1;
- Knoppix 5.0.1 (01-06-06);
- Slampp Lite 2.0.
Usage of the different distributions:
- BackTrack 1.0, Backtrack security collection is a Live-System based on Slax. Independent of the hardware in use, the Backtrack security collection offers a standardised working environment, so that the build-up of know-how and remote support is made easier.
- CDRouter 2.0.10, Linux Live-CD Router allows you to share and firewall your broadband connection and use WIFI. You can use DSL, ADSL, Cable Modem, T1, Fixed IPs, Dial-Up, WIFI and more.
- CentOS 4.3, Can be used a workstation, with the following software: OpenOffice.org 1.1.2, Evolution 2.0.2, Firefox 1.5.0.2, GIMP 2.0.5; built in support for the NVIDIA and ATI proprietary drivers. It is also a great recovery / rescue tool containing the following: read / write access to XFS, JFS, ext3, ext2, NTFS, ReiserFS, LVM2 graphical tool, GNU Parted; QTParted; PartImage; smb4K graphical SMB tool; ClamAV for virus scanning; chkrootkit for finding potential root kits; MemTest86+ memory tester.
- Damn Small Linux 3.0.1, Has a nearly complete desktop, and many command line tools. All applications are chosen with the best balance of functionality, size and speed. Damn Small also has the ability to act as an SSH/FTP/HTTPD server right off of a live CD. In our quest to save space and have a fully functional desktop we’ve made many GUI administration tools which are fast yet still easy to use.
- Knoppix 5.0.1, Can be used as a productive Linux system for the desktop, educational CD, rescue system, or adapted and used as a platform for commercial software product demos. It is not necessary to install anything on a hard disk. Due to on-the-fly decompression, the CD can have up to 2 GB of executable software installed on it (over 8GB on the DVD “Maxi” edition).
- Slampp Lite 2.0, Just like its big brother, SLAMPPLite is a linux live CD that will turn your personal computer to a simple home server. What makes it different is that SLAMPPLite has smaller size that will fit into a 256 MB compact disk or usb stick. It contains only essential server applications like Apache, MySQL, ProFTPD, BIND, DHCPD, SSH and mail server. Several programming languages such as PHP, Perl and Python and other tools to support your web development work are also included.
